Taking Over

Have you ever caught yourself trying to do God's job?  I'm sure if you are human you have a tendency to do that.   We seem to know better... or think we do and we start to do things our way.... and then, before we know it, we are doing something stupid.

In the Message, Eugene Peterson translates a portion of Psalm 19 this way:
Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!    Keep me from stupid sins,    from thinking I can take over your work;
Unfortunately, we often need a new start every day.... and fortunately, God gives us one.  When we ask him to He forgives us and lets us start fresh.

I think it behooves us to remember those four things every day:

1)  God will clean our slate if we ask;

2)  We can start each day fresh;

3)  If we ask for God's help He will keep us from stupid mistakes....

4)  And if we ask Him to remind us, He will help us to see that we can't take over for Him because He is God and we are not.

That's a pretty good way to start the day...
