A lot of agencies are very hard to work with.

Amie: you can email me personally with specific questions, but I say Do NOT Give Up. Just keep trying.

And yes, Lindy, it is a hassle. Many people I think just don't have the tenacity to keep pushing where it is needed to get the kids.

Of course, once they get the kids they are going to need that kind of tenacity for sure to parent them ;-)Claudiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02057662343562530495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11190188.post-48229122446912501042008-11-11T18:58:00.000-06:002008-11-11T18:58:00.000-06:00In our state it seems to take about 2 years, start ...In our state it seems to take about 2 years, start to finish. Most of that time is post homestudy inquiring about kids and never getting any kind of response. Our newest son is 12. We had to threaten to get our legislator involved to get cps to do anything. As a result our son had 2 more psych hospitalizations and one more foster home (and school) that he would have had if they would have placed after we were selected. It took 5 more months to get him placed. We have yet to see his full file.
The reason so many children sit in care is because in many states cps is not honest and is not supportive. Many workers don't even try and match their kids and power struggles between regions also come into play. I know there are good workers out there. I have just never known one personally. This son is our 4th adopted (or will be soon) child. Our next adoption may very well not be out of foster care. It is unnecessarily difficult even for experienced adoptive parents to adopt out of the system. We will probably change our mind and risk it again. It is simply a royal pain in the backside to deal with the state.
LindyLindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01409215673772443518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11190188.post-19685851576951116702008-11-11T14:11:00.000-06:002008-11-11T14:11:00.000-06:00My inital thought when I read this was "well, she ...My inital thought when I read this was "well, she could work until she is blue inthe face for us, but if one person decides that they don't want this adoption to go through it wouldn't matter".

This blog is very timely. I don't know if you remember me, it is okay if you don't :). We emailed a couple of times about 3 years ago. I have been reading your, Cindy's, Paula's.....all you ladies blogs for a while now.

When we lived in GA we went through 3 different agency's and still our adoption was blocked by the head of ICPC. Their reason was that we didn't make enough money. We didn't make much money, but we felt prepared, our workers felt we were prepared. The thing was, we didn't meet what *someone* got in their mind was the prefect family for a large sibling group
(5) of older children (ages 6-13). The thing is, I totally got that we probably weren't the perfect family, but they didn't have any other and hadn't for a LONG time (4 years I think). We were willing, we were educated, and we were committed to making it work; good, bad and ugly. How could the beauracy stop it? I really don't get it. This was all almost 2 years ago.

We have since moved to another state and are considering becoming foster parents. I strongly desire this, but honestly I am still working through all the stuff from before.

Would you be intersted in helping me process some of this? Do you have any thoughts?

Feel free to email inlu of a response here on the blog. akmyilee@aol.com. Thank you for your time,

Amie :)Amiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07480630137656027610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11190188.post-55883316762748869772008-11-11T12:18:00.000-06:002008-11-11T12:18:00.000-06:00I bet a lot of people try and get nowhere with the...I bet a lot of people try and get nowhere with the system and give up. Or are treated like crap. Or don't even know where to begin because it isn't like it is easy to figure out. It took us THREE tries to find an agency. By the time I got to them, I was a bluthering mess because everyone along the way had treated us like we were weirdos for wanting our kids. I know quite a few people that have gotten stuck in homestudy limbo that wait and wait and wait and wait. My guess is a lot of people just don't get anywhere.Torinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00992090842674056507noreply@blogger.com
