Bird Legs and Character

I called Wilson bird legs the other day on the way home from Arizona. He called me Elephant Legs. I said “hey, now, my legs aren’t REALLY as big as an elephant’s!”.

To which he responded, “And my legs aren’t as REALLY as skinny as a bird’s”.

Bird legs or not, this kid has SO MUCH character. This month he “graduated” to a big kids chore. That means he is on the same level with everyone else. And wouldn’t you know it, he has become the very best at doing this chore, even though he is nine, and weighs 49 pounds. Even though vacuuming is not required, he has chosen to vacuum the living room and foyer rug. The vacuum is almost as big as he is. We have area rugs in the library which he some how manages to roll up so he can vacuum under them before he vacuums them.

And yesterday, all 49 pounds of him, decided HE had to be the one who carried in that 25 pound bag of potatoes yesterday... half his weight.

It is so fun to watch his determined little face. Completely issue free, you would think he would be the definition of a “normal” kid. however, I think he is above average. He has character. The stuff inside that makes you an overcome -- sticktoitiveness, determination, something deep down that we didn’t plant there. But we thank God that it is there.

I’m excited to watch this kid grow up.
