God is sick of it!

Have you ever wondered what Jesus thinks about being on a bumper sticker or a billboard?  How do you think God feels about his name being mentioned every time someone sneezes?

I’m not sure that the Almighty God cares much about that stuff, but I can tell you that according to the book of Amos, there are some things He does get tired of.  As translated in the message, Amos 5:21-24 says:

“I can’t stand your religious meetings.
I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions.
I want nothing to do with your religion projects,
    your pretentious slogans and goals.
I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes,
your public relations and image making.
I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music.
When was the last time you sang to me?
Do you know what I want?
    I want justice—oceans of it.
I want fairness—rivers of it.
    That’s what I want. That’s all I want.

Harsh word?  Maybe.  But I think we get the point.  Justice and fairness.  That’s what God wants us to spend our time on.  Fighting for justice for those who cannot fight for themselves.

What are you planning to do today?  I hope part of your day is spent doing something that God says He wants — praying for, believing for, working for, and striving for justice and fairness for everyone.

You probably haven’t heard this song, but it is a good one.  If you’ve heard it I’d be interested in where you did.
