I was on my way to work this morning intending to write a completely different message to you today. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow to read that one.
But I listened to the radio as I was thinking about how the task that I have is impossible — leading an initiative reaching out to every Christian in Lynchburg and the four surrounding counties to share about Vision 30 — every church, every organization. It is literally too much. I ended my day exhausted yesterday trying to figure out how we are going to get this task done. There is just so much to do and so little time and, as you probably know, I’m not getting younger!
I had been thinking about where I was going to get help to get it all done and who there was to ask that wasn’t already feeling maxed out. And then… God stepped in, as he often does, when a song came on the radio that changed my mind about this message as well as reframed my thinking.
Here are some lyrics:
Right now my struggle is all I see
But I'm not giving in
My story will not end in defeat
'Cause nothing can stop an unstoppable God
He's not afraid of impossible odds
This is the promise that I'm standing on
But I'm not giving in
My story will not end in defeat
'Cause nothing can stop an unstoppable God
He's not afraid of impossible odds
This is the promise that I'm standing on
And then it says
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
My help comes from the Lord
So God’s message to us today, especially during times when the struggle is all we see, is twofold:
1. God can’t be stopped and the story doesn’t end in defeat …. and that our help comes from Him.
2. Our help comes from God but we gotta ask him. I was reminded if this verse from James:
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
In just a few minutes, pondering these two things, I’m in a different place. I hope you are too!
Check this out…. watch the whole thing!
