I have moved my laptop to the kitchen table. I have an office downstairs where I have spent the last two summers and I have lied to myself, believing that it’s better if I’m out of the way. But this summer I am determined to monitor the fridge and the computer, so here I sit. I think it will go better in general, but I may have to work 14-15 hour days in order to get 10-11 hours of work accomplished.
So far, so good. Salinda is at work crew and Rand has a summer class. Sadie was up and showered and had breakfast here at the table, then wanted to watch a little TV. Tony got up and showered no his own, changed his shirt with minimal argument, and then sat down to have breakfast. Wow, is he a chatty thing. BUT when I gave him direction to clean up his breakfast mess, which he usually leaves on the table, he actually did it. I told him I would faint and blog it if he could wipe all the cereal off the table, but I guess he had reached his limit after he washed out his bowl, thrown away the cereal box, and put the milk away.
I have been listening to this podcast about ADHD and it is helping me to understand both ADHD and FASD better -- as both affect the same part of the brain. You would think that ADD/ADHD would be “the basics” for a seasoned parent like me, but I’m learning a lot.
i’m trying to provide a lot of structure. In fact, one of the podcast refers to structure as a cast -- protecting what is weak -- that is, the easily frustrated, easily distracted, unorganized ADD (FASD) mind.
So I am trying to provide as much structure as possible for Tony and Dominyk today.
Hopefully between that and my endless blogging about how they and I are doing, I can get some work done. ;-)
