Language Acquisition


I made this collage of Ricardo before he came to live with us.

He is just cracking us up lately as he is getting more brave in using language, but still doesn’t quite get all of the nuances of English grammar.

For example, his two new phrases are:

No, it IS!

and

NO, I AM!

Listening to Tony, age 10, trying to explain to Ricardo why “No, it is“ doesn't make sense is hilarious.

Our favorite ”jimmyism“ at this point was when he used to indignantly ask when we called him in for confrontation, ”What Did I Did?“

Hard to keep a straight face when answering a question like that.
