The school (and I won’t blog who made the decision because too many local people read my blog) won’t let Dominyk wear a hat. It’s against policy. I even forwarded the picture to them.
He is going to be so upset as the kids make fun of him as it is and he is very embarrassed.
I bet if he had a medical diagnosis, like leukemia, instead of a psychiatric diagnosis (OCD) he’d be wearing the hat.
Sometimes rules should be allowed to be broken.

Claudia,
Break those rules! This is directly related to his disability...poor problem solving, OCD behaviors, etc... They need to see that!! The whole "this wouldn't be fair to the other students response has got to go. Life isn't fair, deal with it.
I agree. However, you may send him to school with a hat and they'll remove it. And then you're back at square one.
How about shaving his head? He'll still have the sores (my 10 year old has them as well) but at least the hair would be even.
Have his Dr. send in a note requiring him to wear a hat so that he 1)Has a physical cue to remember not to pick his scalp during his hair regrowth; 2)doesn't get infection or sunburn on his exposed scalp. Clearly this could be spun as a medical issue that they WILL have to accept.
I mean, really...this isn't like some cute little kindergartener who overcut her bangs with her safety scissors or something -- and it will look "cute" until it grows back. This has other implications and a sympathetic Dr. will recognize this.
You are the only adviocate for your child. If the school will not allow it take it to the administration for the corporation. (With a doctors note or pyschiatrist note.) They HAVE to let him wear it for a m dical reason (psych included.) And besides, you're leaving the city soon anyway, so what if you make enemies. You are doing what is best for your child!
